Dieter Kmietczyk (born March 29, 1949 in Jarmen ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ). He was from 1990 to 2008 non-party mayor of the city of Zeitz .

School, training, studies

Kmietczyk learned to be a sugar worker after completing the 10th grade. He then studied sugar technology in Koethen . In 1971 he completed his studies as a sugar factory engineer. In 1974 he moved to Zeitz and worked there in this profession. During this activity, from 1976 to 1981, he completed a distance learning course in Roßwein as a steel construction project engineer.

Lord Mayor of Zeitz

Dieter Kmietczyk has been involved since the political transition from 1989 - initially in the democratic awakening . Between 1990 and 2008, the Zeitz elected him Lord Mayor of the city of Zeitz for three terms. He was supported by the CDU in the first election because the Democratic Awakening had now merged with the CDU. In his three re-elections, he started as a non-party without the support of the CDU.

Kmietczyk was one of the "fathers" of the regional employment initiative "Zeitz Labor Pact". This was founded on December 10th, 1996 to take action against the negative image caused by the high unemployment rate. In 1997, the alliance of local politicians, trade unions and employers succeeded in getting into a support program of the European Union - the associated financial support, spread over several years, amounted to 200,000 ECU. The then EU Commissioner Monika Wulf-Mathies and the President of the EU Commission , Jacques Santer , then visited the city of Zeitz.

On Kmietczyk's initiative, the regional start-up competition “Zeitzer Michael”, which still exists today (2013), was created as a project of the “Zeitz Labor Pact”. The state government of Saxony-Anhalt in Magdeburg soon became aware, and the regional competition gained attention from year to year. The patronage of the competition lay with the Prime Ministers Wolfgang Böhmer and Reiner Haseloff , who came to the annual award ceremony in Moritzburg Castle .

Time since 2008

After the end of his last term of office, Kmietczyk joined the Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen party in 2010 , after having been said to be politically close to the party while he was still active.

Kmietczyk is a member of the Burgenlandkreis district council and works on its finance committee.

In the 2013 federal election he ran as a direct candidate for his party in constituency 73 Burgenland-Saalekreis . He received 3.9% of the first votes. He did not allow himself to be put on the party's national list.
