Dieter Knall

Dieter Knall (born August 24, 1930 in Kronstadt ; † September 21, 2019 ) was an Austrian Evangelical Lutheran theologian . From 1983 to 1995 he was Bishop of the Evangelical Church AB in Austria .

Life

The son of a veterinarian was forcibly moved with his family from Romania to the Bregenzerwald in 1944 . From 1948 to 1955 he studied Protestant theology at the University of Vienna and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . He then completed his vicariate in the Friedenskirche in Stainz in Styria , where he worked as a pastor from 1957 to 1963. Then he worked as a pastor in the Protestant church in Bruck an der Mur until 1965 .

In 1969 Dieter Knall became General Secretary of the Gustav Adolf Works in Germany , where he was responsible for the Lutheran believers in Eastern Europe. He gave up this office in 1976 when he was elected Superintendent of the Evangelical Superintendent of AB Styria . He was then from 1983 to 1995 Bishop of the Evangelical Church AB in Austria. Dieter Knall was also a member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches and the Executive Committee of the Lutheran World Federation .
