Life

For a long time he was the presenter of the WDR-Mittagsmagazin , whose completely new style in the 1960s, a mix of music and verbal contributions, shaped him significantly, which is why he is considered one of the inventors of the modern radio magazine. His style of moderation with his intelligent and dry wit will not be forgotten. Later he moderated the television talk show Kölner Treff together with Alfred Biolek and the press club , the follow-up program to Werner Höfer's international morning pint .

In 1992 Thoma retired. He then worked as a book author and devoted himself to collecting jokes. His later books have also appeared on this subject. He also appeared on talk shows every now and then. Thoma also published an autobiography in 1997 called Salto Backwards and other stories from my life .

Thoma died a few weeks after his 90th birthday and was buried in an urn on May 24, 2017 in Cologne's Melaten central cemetery (Hall 9 (S)). His estate is in the historical archive of the city of Cologne .

Thoma was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia on May 10, 1991 .
