Dietrich Ebert
Dietrich Ebert (born October 25, 1948 in Sankt Peter-Ording ) is a German illustrator and graphic designer .
Life
Dietrich Ebert did an apprenticeship as a lithographer , trained as a graphic draftsman and studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart .
After graduating in 1977, he went freelance as an illustrator and graphic designer. From 1978 he was a brief lecturer at the University of Education in Reutlingen . From 1980 to 1982 he held a professorship for graphic design at the University of Fine Arts in Braunschweig . Ebert works primarily in the field of advertising graphics and book illustration .
Dietrich Ebert works for advertising agencies such as Leonhard & Kern ( Stuttgart ), TWBA Werbeagentur GmbH ( Frankfurt am Main ) and GGK ( Düsseldorf ), as well as for industrial companies such as IBM , AEG and Lacoste .
For the car company Mercedes-Benz , Dietrich Ebert designed a number of posters with achievements from the company's history in 1986 for the company's 100th birthday. He also worked as an illustrator for Der Spiegel magazine.
Since 1984 Dietrich Ebert has also been responsible for the overall artistic design of the Fantasy Literature program area at Klett-Cotta Verlag in Stuttgart. The first cover that Ebert designed for the publisher was the one for Charles G. Finney's Doctor Laos Great Circus (1935, German 1984). From then until 2005 he designed the covers for works by authors such as Tad Williams ( Otherland ), TH White (including The King of Camelot ), Anthony Burgess (including The Prince of Phantoms ) and JRR Tolkien (including The Hobbit , The Lord of the Rings and News from Middle-earth ). 1985 appeared with The Tolkien Calendar 1986 - Views of Middle-earth, a calendar with twelve illustrations of Tolkien's fantasy world.
In Ebert's works, his preference for lithography becomes evident, as well as experimenting with collages and different printing processes . Albrecht Ade ascribes to him a great desire for a wealth of details and detailed elaboration of every element of a graphic.
Dietrich Ebert is married to the studied textile designer Irmgard Ebert, with whom he also runs the joint office for advertising graphics. The couple lives in Reutlingen-Sondelfingen .
