Dietrich Engelhus

Dietrich Engelhus (also: Theoderich Engelhusen , Theodorus , Theodoricus Engelhusius , Engelhuys ) (* around 1362 in Einbeck ; † May 5, 1434 in Wittenburg near Elze ) was a teacher and author of Latin works.

After studying in Prague , Erfurt and Leipzig , Engelhus worked as a teacher in Bamberg , Einbeck , Göttingen and Magdeburg . Shortly before his death in 1434 he entered the Augustinian canons monastery in Wittenburg.

His main work is a Latin world chronicle , which under the title Chronicon continens res ecclesiae et reipublicae ab orbe condito usque ad annum Chr. 1420 was included by Leibniz in the Scriptores rerum Brunsvicensium (T. II. P. 977).

Engelhus wrote 1420/1430 the two manuscripts surviving Promptus , one of the first alphabetically structured encyclopedias .
