Dietrich W. Prost

Dietrich W. Prost , actually: Dietrich Wilhelm Prost (* July 8, 1928 in Anklam ; † November 3, 2000 in Stralsund ) was a German organist , organ expert and cantor .

Dietrich W. Prost was born in Anklam in 1928. His father was a pastor . Prost grew up in Greifswald . He studied from 1946 to 1948 at the Spandau church music school . Gottfried Grote and Ernst Pepping were among his teachers . From 1948 to 1950 Prost studied at the University of Music in Berlin with Joseph Ahrens .

After completing his studies, Dietrich W. Prost became cantor at St. Mary's Church in Stralsund . One of his first tasks here was the rebuilding of the Stellwagen organ that had been outsourced due to the Second World War . He played the instrument in numerous church services and concerts. From 1961 Prost was church music director .

Prost's organist activity took him on concert tours through Europe . He was also an organ expert for the Pomeranian Evangelical Church and for the Schwerin Institute for Monument Preservation. He held a teaching position at the Ernst Moritz Arndt University of Greifswald . He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
