Dietrich Wilhelm von Schultz (born August 31, 1733 in Stendal ; † November 9, 1803 in Bernstadt in Silesia ) was a Prussian major general , commander of the Bosniak Corps and, most recently, chief of Hussar Regiment No. 3 .

Life

origin

He came from a middle-class family from the Altmark . His parents were the building inspector and senator in Stendal Jakob Schultze (born November 26, 1696) and his wife Katharina, née Belitz. His brother was Major General Johann Karl August von Schultz .

Military career

In 1758, during the Seven Years' War, Schultz joined the "Ruesch" hussar regiment as a simple hussar . He took part in the battles of Zorndorf and Torgau , as well as in the battle at Gostyn Monastery and the siege of Schweidnitz. During this time he became sergeant in 1761 , then entered the officer's career and became a cornet on January 21, 1762 and second lieutenant on March 28, 1762 . Schultz served as an adjutant to General Daniel Friedrich von Lossow .

After the war he was on March 19, 1769 Prime Lieutenant and on May 24, 1770 Staff Assistant . On July 5, 1770 he was transferred to the "Bosniaks" hussar regiment . There he became captain and squadron chief on June 2, 1771 . The regiment then took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . Schultz became major on June 12, 1784 . For his services he was raised to the nobility on January 26, 1787. On February 2, 1788 commander of the regiment, on May 20, 1791 lieutenant colonel with patent from June 1, 1791 and on February 16, 1792 colonel . During the Kościuszko uprising in Poland, he took part in the battle near Kolno, for which he received the order Pour le Mérite on June 13, 1794 . His appointment as chief of Hussar Regiment No. 3 followed on September 17, 1797 and on May 20, 1798 he was promoted to major general with the patent on June 12, 1798. He died on November 9, 1803 in Bernstadt in Silesia.
