history
First mention
On December 14, 1300 , the knight “Jacob van Deycenhusen” signs a certificate in the Marienstatt monastery / Westerwald. Spelling of the first mention : Deycenhusen
The location of the castle house of the Knights of Diezenkausen, who lived here from 1300 to 1625, is still unknown today. The knights had two estates, one in Diezenkausen, the other in neighboring Eichen, which was also called Diezenkausen until the 17th century . The water mill in Niederhof belonged to Gut Diezenkausen. The knights were partly in the service of the Duke of Berg at Windeck Castle, and partly in the service of the Counts of Sayn-Wittgenstein at “Hombergh” Castle.
Around 1500 the knights were enfeoffed with Gut Ellingen by Count Hatzfeld and were nicknamed "Ellingen". The headquarters in Diezenkausen was sold to the gentlemen "von der Lipp, called Hoen" (Knight Chicken), who had their headquarters at DattenfeldiSieg.
About fifty years later, knight “Wilhelm Quadt zu Isengarten” acquired the Diezenkausen estate and the mill. In 1625 the last knight "Henrich von Diezenkausen gen. Ellingen" died childless "in the Niederhof, where the mill was". The coat of arms of the Diezenkauser knights can be seen on a tomb in the church in Friesenhagen.
In the second half of the 17th century, the judge and rent master of the Windeck office, Heinrich Ley, bought the goods from the last Quadt in Isengarten. After his death in 1700, the farms were owned by farmers.
The mill in Niederhof has had many owners and tenants since it was first mentioned in the 16th century . From 1817 it was owned by the Schulte family from Brölerhütte. The last miller and mill owner was Fritz Schulte (1887 to 1960).
