Herfen is a village in the town of Waldbröl in the Oberbergisches Kreis in southern North Rhine-Westphalia within the administrative district of Cologne ( Germany ).

Location and description

The place is about 2.8 km south of the city center.

history

In 1487 the place was mentioned for the first time in a document: "Johan van Herwane and Nese his wife prescribe a pension from a meadow in Herwane to the convent of Herchen monastery ".

The spelling of the first mention was Herwen .

On February 22, 1944, a US Air Force B-17 bomber was shot down by a German fighter near Herfen. Seven soldiers died in the crash. Three soldiers were able to save themselves with the parachute.
