Wilkenroth is a village in the town of Waldbröl in the Oberbergisches Kreis in southern North Rhine-Westphalia within the administrative district of Cologne .

The place is 4.5 km north of Waldbröl town center.

history

The place was mentioned for the first time in 1436 , namely "Sale of various goods on the Bröl and Sieg including Wylkerode."

Spelling of the first mention: Wylkerode .

The name Wilkenroth comes from the personal name "Williko". The suffix “roth” formerly “rode” comes from clearing. It can be assumed that “Willikorode” was created during the clearing phase (800 - 1000).
