The village is located at the southernmost tip of the town of Waldbröl and the Oberbergischer Kreis, approx. 6.1 km south of the city center.

In 1571 the place was mentioned for the first time in a document: "In the feed oat lists two desolate houses are mentioned for Niederkräwinckell (in 1580 one of the three Krawinckel places first appears with the addition on the Heidten)."
