Diisodecyl phthalate is a mixture of several organic, chemical compounds ( isomers ) from the group of phthalates ( esters of phthalic acid ) that is used as a plasticizer for PVC . It is a colorless, almost odorless, oily liquid.

use

Diisodecyl phthalate is used as a plasticizer for PVC (with a particularly low volatility and very good flexibility at low temperatures), especially for applications in the higher temperature range (e.g. cables in vehicles). However, DIDP is also used for PUR and epoxy resin adhesives . It is forbidden to use the substance in toys and baby articles that children can put in their mouths, as the substance is listed in Appendix 1 of the Consumer Goods Ordinance .

proof

Diisodecyl phthalate can be detected qualitatively and quantitatively by chromatographic methods such. B. by HPLC and gas chromatography , especially in the coupling of these methods with mass spectrometry .
