Dina Pomeranz

Dina Deborah Pomeranz (* 1977 ) is a Swiss economist . She is one of the most influential economists in Switzerland.

Life

Pomeranz grew up in Zurich and graduated from high school there. She studied International Relations at the University of Geneva and in 2004 did her Masters at the University Institute for International Studies and Development in Geneva. In 2010 she received her PhD in economics from Harvard University with the dissertation Essays on Tax Evasion and Savings: Evidence from Three Randomized Experiments in Chile . From 2010 to 2011 she was a Post-Doctoral Fellow of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab at MIT and from 2011 to 2017 an assistant professor at Harvard Business School . She published her studies a. a. in The American Economic Review . In 2017 she moved to the Institute for Economics at the University of Zurich as an assistant professor for microeconomics . She was a Fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) from 2012 to 2017 and has been the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) since 2015 .

Her research areas are procurement , development economics , public finances (particularly tax evasion ) and North-South relations . One of her main areas of research is the role of VAT in tax enforcement. Methodically, she applies the impact analysis (impact assessment) in the tradition of Michael Kremer (her PhD Adviser), Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee on.

She is on the board of the organization Evidence Action, which implements evidence-based development projects for more than 200 million people worldwide, and on the editorial board of the journal Perspektiven der Wirtschaftspektiven . In 2018 she was elected to the board of the European Economics Association for 5 years.

She is one of the most influential economists in Switzerland.
