Diphenamide is a chemical compound from the group of acetamides and a herbicide . The effect is based on the inhibition of acetyl-CoA carboxylase .
Extraction and presentation
Diphenamide is obtained from benzaldehyde . This reacts with hydrogen cyanide and benzene . The nitrile group of the resulting biphenyl is hydrolyzed to the carboxylic acid. Further reactions with thionyl chloride and dimethylamine give the end product.
use
Diphenamide is used as a selective pre-emergence herbicide in a wide variety of crops.
