Dirk Wedel (born June 8, 1974 in Velbert ) is a German lawyer and politician ( FDP ). Since 2017 he has been State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia .

biography

After graduating from high school and doing community service, Dirk Wedel studied law at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1994 . After his legal clerkship , he passed the second state examination in 2002 and joined the judiciary as a judge , from 2005 at the Düsseldorf Regional Court . From 2007 to 2012 he worked as a consultant in the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry of Justice , where he was responsible for information technology issues in the judiciary, among other things. Wedel is married and has two children.

politics

Wedel has been a member of the FDP since 1993. From 1999 to 2014 he represented his party in the district assembly of the Mettmann district , where he was parliamentary group leader . Since 2009 he has also been the district chairman of his party. In the North Rhine-Westphalian state elections in 2012 and 2017 , he was elected via the FDP state list and belonged to the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from May 31, 2012 to June 29, 2017. In the state parliament he was the spokesman for legal policy of the FDP state parliamentary group and chairman of the executive committee. He was also the FDP spokesman in the parliamentary committee of inquiry for the construction and property management of North Rhine-Westphalia .

On June 30, 2017, Wedel was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Justice of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia by Prime Minister Armin Laschet ( CDU ).
