The Disaster Competence Network Austria ( DCNA ) is a non-profit and open association . It acts as an academic contact and cooperation partner for aid and emergency organizations as well as for decision-makers from the public and private sectors. The aim of the DCNA is to transfer scientific knowledge into practice and to provide decision-relevant information and scientific infrastructure in the event of a disaster .

history

The Disaster Competence Network Austria (DCNA) was launched in 2017 by the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna and the Technical University of Graz . At the end of November 2019, the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich became the first non-Austrian university to become a member of the association.

Associated members are, for example, the Austrian Red Cross and the Austrian Federal Fire Brigade Association (ÖBFV). Strategic partnerships exist with the Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Center (DRMKC) and the Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI). The seat of the association is at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna .

Fields of activity

The main tasks and goals are the networking of scientists , emergency organizations, authorities and companies as well as the implementation of research projects and the promotion of young scientists. Six fields of activity were defined for this purpose:

Specifically, various technologies for mitigating the consequences of future natural disasters or the possibilities of introducing an EU-wide data hub on disaster risks were discussed in the context of scientific conferences .
