The Disneyland Railroad Paris is a narrow-gauge park railway in Disneyland Paris .
Railway infrastructure
The route is a single track circuit with a 3 foot (914 mm ) gauge . It does not contain any systems to enable train crossings or overtaking .
The train protection is carried out via a block with light signals , the trains are dispatched by both passengers and staff stationed at the stops.
Four stops are on the route: Main Street, USA, Frontierland Depot, Fantasyland and Discoveryland as well as a workshop for maintaining the trains. Main Street, USA is an elevated stop that was built opposite the entrance to Disneyland Park, above the main street axis and has the largest reception building in the facility.
vehicles
There are four trains, all in Western design , but each with a different color scheme, which always run as a closed unit. They are pulled by oil-fired steam locomotives named WF CODY , CK HOLLIDAY , G. WASHINGTON and EUREKA . And their five cars carrying in American tradition each a name:
- Train No. 1: WF Cody is the real name of Buffalo Bill. The carriages of the train are named after cities of the "Wild West": Silverton , Durango , Denver , Wichita and Cheyenne .
- Train # 2: CK Holliday was the founder of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway . "His" train is an excursion train from the 19th century. The cars are therefore named after well-known excursion destinations of the time: Coney Island , Atlantic City , Chesapeake , Long Island and Niagara Falls .
- Train # 3: George Washington in blue, white, and red (the colors of the state flags of both the United States and France ). The names of the wagons refer to places that were important in the life of the first US President: Mt. Vernon , Boston , Philadelphia , Yorktown and Valley Forge .
- Train no. 4: Eureka is a transcription of the ancient Greek " Eureka " ( ancient Greek εὕρηκα [ hɛːǔ̯rɛːka ]), which means: "I found it." It is the state motto of the "gold digger state" California and refers here to the gold digger's exclamation after a successful search , which is certainly in the rarest of cases in ancient Greek . The cars are named after California cities: San Francisco , Los Angeles , Monterey , San Diego and Sacramento .
The passenger cars are covered, half-open compartment cars with entry and exit only on one side facing the park. After that, the wagons are open in the area of the windows and doors and glazed on the other side.
traffic
The course was opened together with the amusement park on April 12, 1992. It operated under the name Euro Disneyland Railroad until 1994 . There is only passenger traffic . The number of trains used depends on the number of visitors, without a fixed timetable . A train takes around 20-25 minutes to complete one lap, with a maximum speed of 30 km / h. The train serves as the park's own attraction , but also to switch between the individual theme areas of the park. The trains generally stop at each of the four stops.
The change of passengers takes place in that the disembarking passengers first leave the train and platform and only then are the boarding passengers allowed on the platform. The doors of the cars are locked and locked manually by the staff before the journey. This type of handling is extremely complex and tailored to an audience that is not used to using a train. The average travel speed is therefore less than 10 km / h.
The trains run clockwise . After the Main Street, USA stop , there is a tunnel in which a diorama of the Grand Canyon is shown. Then the train drives along the edge of the Frontierland theme park and stops there at the Frontierland Depot stop , which is modeled on a train station in the Wild West . Then the tour offers a look at the Indiana Jones installation and the Temple of Secrets . This is followed by a tunnel under the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction that allows a glimpse of the “pirate treasures”. Next stop is Fantasyland . This station is modeled on British station architecture. The last stop is done in Discoveryland , this is the style held "futuristic". Then the train returns to Main Street, USA .
