Districts of Islay Province

The Deán Valdivia district is located in the Islay province in the Arequipa region in southwest Peru . The district has an area of ​​134.08 km². The 2017 census counted 6,854 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5,416, in 2007 6,318. The district administration is based in the small town of La Curva, north of the mouth of the Río Tambo , with 2,536 inhabitants (as of 2017).

The Deán Valdivia district is centrally located in the Islay province. It stretches along a 7.5 km stretch of the Pacific coast north of the mouth of the Río Tambo. It stretches almost 15 km inland. In the north, the district reaches heights of up to 800  m . The right bank of the lower 10 kilometers of the Río Tambo lie within the Deán Valdivia district. It borders in the northwest on the Mejía district , in the northwest on the Mollendo district , in the northeast on the Cocachacra district and in the southeast on the Punta de Bombón district . Irrigated agriculture is practiced on the coast and in the Río Tambo valley. National Road 15 runs along the coast through the district.
