The Puno District is located in the Puno Province in the Puno Region in southern Peru . The district has an area of 460.75 km². The 2017 census counted 135,288 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 100,168, in 2007 125,663. The administrative seat of the district is the provincial and regional capital Puno at an altitude of 3827 m with 125,018 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Puno district is located in the Altiplano on a bay on the west bank of Lake Titicaca in the center of the Puno province.
The Puno district is bordered to the east by the district Chucuito , on the south by the district Pichacani , in the southwest of the district of San Antonio , to the west by the district Tiquillaca and in the northwest on the district Paucarcolla .
