The Amantaní district is located in the Puno Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district was established on April 9, 1965. It consists of the two islands Amantaní and Taquile , which are located off the western shore of Lake Titicaca . The district has an area of 13.7 km². The 2017 census counted 3557 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3913, in 2007 it was 4255. The seat of the district administration is the 3854 m high village Amantaní with 420 inhabitants (as of 2017). Amantaní is located 39 km northeast of the regional and provincial capital Puno .
