The Mañazo District is located in the Puno Province in the Puno Region in southern Peru . The district was established on January 30, 1953. It has an area of 410 km². The 2017 census counted 5324 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5586, in 2007 it was 5451. The district administration is seated in the 3926 m high town of Mañazo with 2641 inhabitants (as of 2017). Mañazo is located 34 km west-northwest of the regional and provincial capital Puno .
Geographical location
The Mañazo District is located in the southwest of the Puno Province. In the southwest it reaches the Cordillera Volcánica . The continental watershed runs through the south of the district . The area south of it is drained via the Río Charamayo and the Río Paltuture to the Río Tambo . The northern part of the district lies in the catchment area of Lake Titicaca .
The district of Mañazo borders in the south on the district Ichuña ( province General Sánchez Cerro ), in the west on the district Cabanillas ( province San Román ), in the north on the district Cabana (also in the province San Román), in the northeast on the district Vilque and in the southeast to the Tiquillaca district .
