The Cabana district is located in the San Román Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district has an area of ​​193 km². The 2017 census counted 5215 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4761, in 2007 it was 4392. The seat of the district administration is the 3901  m high village Cabana with 1007 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cabana is located 26 km southwest of the provincial capital Juliaca .

Geographical location

The Cabana district is centrally located in the San Román province. The longitudinal extent in SW-NE direction is 27 km, the maximum width is 10.5 km. The Río Coata flows northeast along the northwestern district boundary . The Río Ilpa flows in sections along the southeastern border of the district, also in a northeastern direction.

The Cabana district borders in the west on the Cabanillas district , in the northwest on the Cabanilla district ( Lampa province ), in the north on the Juliaca district , in the east on the Caracoto and Atuncolla districts , in the southeast on the Vilque district and in the southwest on the district Mañazo (the last three districts mentioned are part of the Puno Province ).
