The district of San Miguel is located in the province of San Román in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district was formed on July 28, 2016 from parts of the Juliaca district. It has an area of ​​121 km². The 2017 census counted 65,422 inhabitants. The seat of the district administration is the 3842  m high San Miguel, a northeastern suburb of the city Juliaca with 60,850 inhabitants (as of 2017).

Geographical location

The district of San Miguel is located in the northeast of the province. It includes San Miguel, the northeastern part of the Juliaca agglomeration, and the sparsely populated area beyond the Río Coata . It borders the provinces of Lampa and Azángaro in the north, the province of Huancané in the east, the Caracoto district in the southeast and the city and the Juliaca district in the west.
