The Tiquillaca district is located in the Puno Province in the Puno region in southern Peru . The district has an area of ​​489 km². The 2017 census counted 1688 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2638, in 2007 it was 2053. The seat of the district administration is the 3885  m high village of Tiquillaca with 369 inhabitants (as of 2017). Tiquillaca is located 17.5 km west-northwest of the regional and provincial capital Puno .

Geographical location

The district of Tiquillaca is located in the central west of the province of Puno. The longitudinal extent in SW-NE direction is about 50 km. In the extreme northeast, the district extends to the southern shore of Lake Umayo . The watershed between the Pacific Ocean and the Altiplano runs through the southwest of the district . The northeast lies in the catchment area of Lake Titicaca , the southeast in the catchment area of ​​the Río Tambo .

The district of Tiquillaca borders in the southwest with the district Ichuña ( province General Sánchez Cerro ), in the northwest with the districts Mañazo and Vilque , in the extreme northeast with the district Paucarcolla , in the east with the district Puno and in the south with the district San Antonio .
