The Salitral district is located in the Sullana Province in the Piura region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on June 19, 1946. It has an area of 31.3 km². The 2017 census counted 7191 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5054, in 2007 6097. The seat of the district administration is the 60 m high town of Salitral with 5900 inhabitants (as of 2017). Salitral is just under 4 km northeast of the provincial capital Sullana .
Geographical location
The Salitral District is located in the southeast of the Sullana Province. It is located on the right northern bank of the river Chira, which flows westwards . In the south of the district around the Río Chira, irrigated agriculture is practiced. In the north of the district there is desert.
The Salitral District is bordered to the west by the district Marcavelica , on the east by the district Querecotillo and the south by the district Sullana .
