The Djurgårdslinie (Swedish: Djurgårdslinjen ) is a tram line in the Swedish capital Stockholm , which was shut down in 1967 and rebuilt and put into operation in 1991 on the section from Norrmalmstorg to Waldemarsudde.
Historic vehicles from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s drive on the 2.9-kilometer line 7 N between Norrmalmstorg and Waldemarsudde. It runs from Easter to Christmas only on the weekends or daily between the end of May and the end of August and is served every ten or twelve minutes. On the weekends, the so-called "Rolling Café" is also brought along, a sidecar in which coffee, tea and pastries are served.
Until 2010 the Djurgårdslinie was number 7. It was not fully integrated into the local transport network Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL). Only certain tickets were valid there.
In 2010 Spårväg City was opened, which in the final state of development will be a tram line from Kungsholmen in the west to the bridge to Lidingö . So far, however, only the two stations Kungsträdgården and Sergels Torg have been opened. Since then, all SL tickets are also valid on the Djurgårdslinie, which has been given the new name 7N. Modern low-floor coaches of the Bombardier Flexity Classic type operate from Sergels Torg to Waldemarsudde under the old name of Line 7 .
history
The route to Djurgården was shut down together with the still operated Stockholm network (except for the suburban lines Nockebybanan and Lidingöbanan ) in 1967 when Sweden switched to right-hand traffic. Since then, there have been repeated considerations to reactivate them. In 1985 the city decided to put it back into operation as a museum railway, but without the consent of Storstockholms Lokaltrafik (SL). On June 2, 1991, it started operating as line 7 and has since been operated on a voluntary basis by the Swedish Tramway Association. The infrastructure belongs to the SL, but not the rolling stock.
Expansion plans
The first preliminary studies for expanding the Djurgårds line were carried out as early as 2000. In mid-2007 the city decided to expand the Djurgårds line. The route should be extended from the current end point at Norrmalmstorg to Centralstation Central Station . The route is led from Norrmalmstorg on the existing bus lane through the Hamngatan . From there, the route should end on individual traffic lanes around Sergels torg in Klarabergsgatan and on the Klarabergsviadukt in front of the main station. For reasons of space, no turning loop could have been built there, which is why the route could only have been traveled with bidirectional vehicles.
The existing depot on Djurgården is too small for the new vehicles and cannot be enlarged due to the lack of expansion space. Therefore, a new depot will be built on the Frihamnen / Värtan industrial site. As a connection, a two-lane line will be built over Oxenstiernsgatan and Lindarängsvägen. This can later be upgraded as a regular route when the planned conversion of the old port facilities into a residential and business district is implemented. The type A32 ( Bombardier Flexity Swift ) articulated vehicles already used in Stockholm on the Nockebybanan and Tvärbanan are not able to negotiate the tight curve radii on the Djurgårdslinie, so a new type of vehicle has to be purchased. That is why Stockholms Lokaltrafik tested Bombardier Flexity Outlook and Alstom Citadis trains in 2006 and 2007 .
In a first construction phase, the existing route from Norrmalmstorg to Sergels Torg will be extended. The opening for traffic took place in August 2010, since then the new low-floor wagons have been running as line 7, the historic trains as line 7N.
