The Dolgener See is located between the towns of Schwaan and Laage in the municipality of Dolgen am See , about 22 kilometers from Rostock .

description

It is a channel lake in a hilly ground moraine landscape and was created during the last Ice Age ( Vistula Ice Age ) from a former meltwater channel that was permanently filled with water after the ice receded. The heights north of the lake reach almost 70  m above sea level. NHN . To the east is the eponymous place Dolgen. The lake has a length of around 2.9 kilometers and a width between 250 meters in the north and almost 400 meters in the south. The water consists of two basins, which are separated from each other by a peninsula. There is a former castle complex on the peninsula. The lakeshore is used almost exclusively as arable and pasture land. In the north there is a smaller forest area. The lake is located together with the High Sprenzer lake in the conservation area Sprenzer Lake Dolgener and High . In the west, the Autobahn 19 and in the north the Neustrelitz – Warnemünde railway line past the lakeshore. From 1782 to 1945, the Dolgener See belonged to the von Plessen family's manor .

Deviating from the size specification within the landscape protection area of ​​81 ha, the Dolgener See is designated by the state government with a size of 78 ha; the lease of the previous owner and the state anglers association assume 87.5 hectares of lake area.

The main species of fish in this inland water are: lead , roach , rudd , carp , bream , bleak , perch , pike , eel , burbot , crucian carp and ruff .

The name Dolgener See is derived from the Old Slavic word dlŭgŭ for long .
