Dolores Bauer

Dolores Bauer (born September 18, 1934 in Schwarzenbach, Sankt Wolfgang im Salzkammergut ; † June 23, 2010 ) was an Austrian journalist .

Life

Dolores Bauer lived in Gmunden until her Matura , after which she studied theater and Romance studies at the University of Vienna . She also worked as a freelance journalist for Die Furche , Das Offene Wort and the Kronen Zeitung . After graduating, she became editor of the newspaper Neues Österreich . From 1964 she headed the Fritz Molden- Bühnenverlag for three years .

In 1968, Bauer was invited to help set up ORF's “Current Service” . From autumn 1968 she was the chief editor of the “Documentation and Current Affairs” department. Her shows were In Focus and Children Without a Future . Bauer was the first woman on Austrian television to lead the "press conference" in 1972.

Bauer left the ORF in 1986 and was a member of the state parliament ( ÖVP ) in Vienna from 1987 to the end of 1988 . Then she worked again at ORF. In the "Religion" department, she was responsible for the programs Aufbruch and Fulfilled Time until 1999 .

The central themes in Dolores Bauer's work were “justice”, “peace” and “the integrity of creation”. With critical engagement she campaigned in the Catholic Church and development policy. She was a member of the parish council of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.

Dolores Bauer was President of the Austrian-Ugandan Friendship Society and was also involved in the creation of the “ Unterolberndorfer Manifesto ” in 1985 . From 2000 she was a member of GLOBArt, an interdisciplinary and interreligious think tank for questions about the future, where she also played a key role in shaping the content.

Dolores Bauer had three children and was the grandmother of eleven grandchildren.
