Domenico Padovano (born September 27, 1940 in Mola di Bari ; † May 10, 2019 in Mola di Bari) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Conversano-Monopoli .

Life

Domenico Padovano studied philosophy and theologian and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1965 . He also completed a degree in pedagogy at the University of Bari. He was pastor of S. Maria Maggiore in Gioia del Colle and rector of the Archbishop's Seminary in Bari .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Bari-Canosa and titular bishop of Mazaca on September 30, 1982 . The Archbishop of Bari-Canosa and Bishop of Bitonto , Andrea Mariano Magrassi OSB , donated him episcopal ordination on October 24th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Giuseppe Carata , Archbishop of Trani and Barletta and Nazareth and Bisceglie , and Michele Mincuzzi , Archbishop of Lecce . As a motto he chose Fraternitate invicem diligentes .

In 1984 he was appointed auxiliary bishop in Bitonto. Since the amalgamation of the dioceses to form the Archdiocese of Bari-Bitonto on September 30, 1986, he was auxiliary bishop in the newly circumscribed archdiocese. On February 13, 1987, he was appointed Bishop of Conversano-Monopoli by John Paul II . He chaired the commission for culture and social communication in the regional bishops' conference of Pugliese.

On February 5, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.

Domenico Padovano was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . He was a grand officer and prior of the Central Apulia Commandery and Grumo Appula of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
