Donald "Don" McCulloch Cowie (born February 15, 1983 in Inverness ) is a former Scottish football player .

Career

society

Don Cowie was born in Inverness in the Scottish Highlands in 1983 . He began his career about 25 km northwest in Dingwall in the youth of Ross County . He made his professional debut in the second division in the 2000/01 season . With the Staggies he won the 2007 Challenge Cup final against FC Clyde . At Ross County he played until the end of the 2006/07 season exclusively in the 2nd division in Scotland and was team captain there for some time . After relegation at the end of the 2006/07 season in the Scottish third division, Cowie moved to rival from the Highlands, Inverness Caledonian Thistle , who played in the Scottish Premier League . The club rose from 2008/09 in the second division. However, Cowie had already moved to England for Watford FC in February 2009 . At the Hornets he was a regular under Malky Mackay in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons . Together with Mackay, Cowie moved to Cardiff City in July 2011 . As a second division champion, Cowie rose to the Premier League with the Welsh in 2013 . As bottom of the table, the direct relegation followed a season later. Cowie then continued his career at Wigan Athletic , with whom he was relegated from the second to the third division. In February 2016 he moved from Wigan to Heart of Midlothian . Two years later, he moved to Ross County, where he ended his career in 2020 at the age of 37.

National team

Cowie made his senior Scottish debut in October 2009 against Japan in Yokohama when he came on for Charlie Adam . He played ten times for the national team from 2009 to 2012, four of them in qualifying for the 2012 European Championship .
