Philippe A. Kayser alias Don Philippe (born  December 21, 1959 in Stuttgart ) is a German composer , musician and music producer, partly of French descent.

Life

Philippe Kayser grew up in Stuttgart as the son of a French woman who was passionate about literature and music and a German doctor. Since the 1980s he has been active as a professional musician in various bands and projects.

He had his first international success with the acid jazz LP “Quelle Aventure” of his band NoSé (with the Stuttgart musician and sound engineer Tom Krüger). He met Max Herre in the early 1990s . The first joint hip-hop project Agit Jazz is born . In 1995 Max Herre and Don Philippe founded the band Maximilian and his Circle of Friends (later shortened to Circle of Friends ) with the Stuttgart DJ Friction (Martin Welzer ). In the same year, Stuttgart hip-hop musicians and artists founded the collective farm , to which Kayser also belongs. Kayser has lived and worked in Berlin since 2005.

After Herre, Kayser and Welzer signed Die Fantastischen Vier with the band's newly founded label Four Music in 1997 , they achieved their musical and commercial breakthrough with ANNA . As one of the great love hymns of the 90s , the hit hit the 250,000 mark in sales and exceeded all expectations. The band, renamed Freundeskreis, was on everyone's lips. The debut album Die Quadratur des Kreises went over the counter a total of 170,000 times.

In 1999 the second album Esperanto was released with the single of the same name as a release. With more than 300,000 copies sold, this marked the band's peak for the time being.

The double live album "En Directo" by FK Allstars was released later. The album is a recording of four concerts from December 1999. It includes pieces from the Freundeskreis as well as reinterpretations by the Allstars.

After the Freundeskreis had given their last concerts for the time being in 2000, the band could be seen again at various festivals in 2007, including a. in Stuttgart, the hometown of the band, where they celebrated their 10th anniversary at the MTV HipHop Open festival.

Philippe Kayser has been active as a composer, music producer and musician in his own projects and commissioned productions since 2001. Various film scores were created for cinema and television films as well as commercials. Kayser also composed the theater music for “Goldfischen” at the Cologne Theater51-Grad. In collaboration with Günne Feege he produced the single "Solo" by Thomas D feat. Nina Hagen . In addition, various remixes and a. for Die Fantastischen Vier , Absolute Beginner , Miss Kenichi or Sprachlabor .

In 2001 he worked as a producer with Tommy Wittinger, Frank Kuruc and Max Herre on Joy Denalane's debut album “Mamani”. It is considered the first real German-language soul album by a singer. The top 10 album sold 130,000 times and was nominated three times for the Echo .

Current project with the Spanish singer Laura López Castro . Don Philippe and Laura López Castro have been working together since 2002. He composes on the guitar, she writes the lyrics and sings in her native Spanish. So far there have been two studio albums for Max Herre's record company Nesola .

In 2007 Philippe Kayser produced the debut album of the Turkish-German singer-songwriter Alev Lenz .
