occupation

Stadt als Beute is a German episode film from 2005, a joint work by the directors Miriam Dehne , Esther Gronenborn and Irene von Alberti . It is based on René Pollesch 's play of the same name from 2001.

action

The three-part drama is about city life in Berlin, especially that of the three theater actors Marlon, Ohboy and Lizzy, who are rehearsing scenes from the play City as Prey by the playwright René Pollesch in a theater .

The rehearsals are at the heart of the story. There the protagonists get to know each other and meet again and again until the premiere of the piece. The personal development they go through when they leave the rehearsals and get lost in Berlin city life goes analogously with the development of the play. Each of the protagonists gets involved and overcomes their individual limitations.

Ohboy, who has internalized life in the big city and is able to adapt to its rhythm, avoids the confrontation of real challenges in everyday life with a noticeable ease.

In contrast, Marlon is new to the city and is struggling with the rules of the game of life in a metropolis, which are still alien to him.

On the one hand, Lizzy is looking for fame and recognition, but at the same time she longs for great love - until the negative side of reality, in which sex and buyability rule, catches up with her in a nightclub.

The film ends in the premiere of Stadt als Loot. Reality and fiction merge. We experience how each of the three protagonists uses the development they have gone through in their own way for the PR of the piece.

background

Overall, the drama addresses life, social ties and problems as well as professional opportunities in a big city. René Pollesch himself took on the role of theater director René in the film and works with the actors on his own piece in the film.
