Don Sharpless

Don Sharpless (born January 8, 1933 - August 2, 2017 ) was an American sound engineer .

Life

Sharpless began his career in the early 1970s and had his film debut in 1970 with Paul Newman's drama You Want To Be Giants , where he worked as an uncredited sound assistant at the boom . He then worked on two westerns as a sound assistant and began to work on television productions. He was involved in six episodes of the crime series Banacek and 12 episodes of the Baretta series as a sound engineer. 1976 he worked for Robert Wise's disaster movie The Hindenburg together with Leonard Peterson , John A. Bolger Jr. and John L. Mack for the Oscar in the category Best Sound nominated, but the award went this year to Steven Spielberg's horror film Jaws .

Until the early 1980s, he worked in both film and television productions. Among other things, he worked on the Walter Matthau comedies Hausbesuche and Buddy Buddy . Between 1983 and 1996 he only worked for television, including the series Airwolf and Fame - Der Weg zum Ruhm . In 1987 he was nominated for the Primetime Emmy for the sound mixing of an episode of Fame, along with Murray McFadden , Michael Stone and Fred Tator . From 1988 until they were discontinued in 1996, he worked on 172 episodes of the crime series Murder Is Her Hobby with Angela Lansbury .
