Donald Margulies (born September 2, 1954 ) is an American playwright who received the Pulitzer Prize for theater in 2000 for his play Dinner with Friends , for which he was previously nominated twice for other plays.

Life

After attending school, Margulies studied at the State University of New York at Purchase (SUNY Purchase) and later worked as a lecturer at the School of Drama at Yale University and as a screenwriter for television series .

He began playing theater in the early 1980s and made his debut with Luna Park (1982). After being nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for Theater for his plays Sight Unseen in 1992 and for Collected Stories in 1997 , he received this prize in 2000 for his drama Dinner with Friends . In 2001 the play by Norman Jewison with Dennis Quaid and Andie MacDowell was filmed for television and was released in Germany under the title Dinner with Friends . In 2002, Gilbert Cates filmed Collected Stories with Linda Lavin and Samantha Mathis .

The play Time Stands Still was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play at the 2010 Tony Awards .

Margulies wrote the script for The End of the Tour , released in 2015 . In 2019 Margulies was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
