Donfeld

Donfeld also Don field (* 3. July 1934 in Los Angeles , California as Donald Lee field ; † 3. February 2007 in Temple City , California) was an American costume designer in film. He became internationally known for his work for films such as The Days of Wine and Roses , The Great Race Around the World , He was called Hombre , Only horses are given the coup de grace or The honor of the Prizzis .

life and work

Donfeld, born Donald Lee Feld in Los Angeles in 1934, first attended the Chouinard Art Institute before he was hired as the art director of Capitol Records to design album covers at the age of 19 in the early 1950s. After several years at Capitol, he finally got involved in the film industry and soon found a permanent position as a costume designer. Donfeld began his career in 1961 working on dramas such as Tony Richardson's Confession of a Sinner , José Ferrer's Return to Peyton Place, and the Elvis Presley film Song of the Rebel . Since his name was often misspelled, he changed it from Don Feld to the stage name Donfeld in the mid-1960s .

Donfeld was nominated for a total of four Oscars in his career . 1963 for Days of Wine and Roses , in the 1970s for They Shoot Horses and Tom Sawyer and 1986 for Prizzi's Honor . Donfeld also designed costumes for television and received an Emmy nomination in 1978 for his multi-episode work on Wonder Woman .

In addition to his work in film and television, he also regularly outfits the Academy Awards shows with his costume designs.

Donfeld was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences . He died in Temple City on February 3, 2007 at the age of 72 .
