The Evangelical Lutheran , listed village church Kösnitz is located in Kösnitz , a district of the city and rural community Bad Sulza in the Weimarer Land district in Thuringia . The parish Kösnitz belongs to the area III Apolda Apolda in the parish church district Apolda Buttstaedt the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The high baroque hall church was built in 1715 using after a fire the medieval had destroyed predecessor. The eastern choir of the previous building was reused and added to the choir tower . The nave is covered with a mansard roof with large dormer windows . On the plastered lower storey of the tower sits a slate-covered , octagonal tower with a curved hood , which is crowned by a lantern . A late Gothic pointed arched tracery window on the south side of the choir is now without tracery. The high interior has galleries on three sides that are two or three stories high . The central space between the galleries is covered with a wooden barrel vault. In the lower choir area is the pulpit altar from the early 18th century. The organ stands on the slightly swinging west gallery . It has 14 registers , distributed over 2 manuals and pedal , and was built in 1818 by Johann Christian Adam Gerhard and restored in 2005 by Hans-Jürgen Vogel.
