It belongs to the parish of Koßdorf in the Bad Liebenwerda parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

Building description and history

Inauguration in 1913

Already during the church visitation of the diocese of Meißen in 1540 the place was mentioned as a branch of Koßdorf , after it belonged to Boragk before . The predecessor of today's church in Langenrieth was built at the beginning of the Thirty Years War between 1619 and 1621. The place did not survive the war itself. With the exception of the church, which survived the war, like many neighboring villages in the Elbe-Elster lowlands, it was finally largely razed to the ground.

In 1912 it was decided to demolish the old dilapidated half-timbered church and in 1913 to rebuild the plastered hall building with a three-sided east end. To the west of the nave is a square tower with a tail hood and clock. A sacristy was added to the south .

Fallen memorial

The interior of the church is characterized by a flat arched wooden ceiling and a west gallery. Some of the furnishings come from the previous building that was demolished in 1912. The existing here Sandstone - baptismal font dates back to the first quarter of the 17th century . On the choir wall there are three carved figures of Mary with child , Anna herself, and the Archangel Michael . There is also a board with a painting from the 15th century depicting Veronica 's handkerchief.

The Langenriether organ has a pneumatic cone chest , two manuals and 7 registers . This was created in 1913 by the Liebenwerda organ builder Arno Voigt (op. 29).

One of the two bells in Langenrieth's church was melted down during World War II. A replacement bell from Koßdorf turned out to be a stop bell and could therefore not be used to ring. In March 2009, the parish received a new bell with the help of donations. The new bell was created in the Lauchhammer art and bell foundry and installed in October 2009.

In the immediate vicinity of the church, on the village green, a war memorial in the form of a brick stele commemorates the villagers who died in the First World War . A plaque with the names of those killed and missing in World War II was placed on the base of the monument .
