Libbenichen village church

The Protestant village church Libbenichen is a baroque hall church in Libbenichen , a district of the municipality of Lindendorf in the Märkisch-Oderland district in the state of Brandenburg . It belongs to the Mallnow Evangelical Parish in the Mallnow-Podelzig parish of the Oderland-Spree Evangelical Church District .

location

The district of Libbenichen extends as a village green in a west-east direction and is crossed by the federal highway 167 in the east in a north-south direction. From here, Otto-Grotewohl-Straße leads west to the historic village green. There the church is on a hill north of the road. To the north and east, Lindenstrasse leads past the building, which is enclosed by a wall of field stones .

history

The sacred building was built in 1736 on the remains of a previous medieval building. So far, no more precise data is available on the type and scope. The Seelow-Land office states that the original structure was built in the 13th century and the church tower was added in the 14th century. The structure was damaged by fighting during World War II and repaired after 1945. Craftsmen uncovered small remains of a medieval wall painting on the southern wall of the nave .

Building description

Remains of a presumably medieval priest gate at the choir

The choir is rectangular and slightly indented in width compared to the nave. The eastern wall of the choir is closed. There is a beehive-shaped window on the north and south sides. On the south wall in the direction of the nave there is still a blocked priest door . When and with what material it was closed cannot be said without a closer look. However, remnants of the original, ogival shape can still be seen. It is therefore possible that it still comes from the previous building. The structure is provided with a continuous, light-colored plaster .

The also rectangular nave adjoins to the west. On each side there are two windows worked like the choir and on the south side another gate, which is closed with a wooden door. The nave has a simple saddle roof , which is covered with a red beaver tail .

The church tower , which is square and slightly indented, extends to the west . On its west side there is a double-stepped, pointed arch-shaped gate - this is also an indication of a medieval predecessor building. There is no connection between the tower and the ship. In the middle tower floor there is an ogival, narrow opening on each of the three accessible sides. Above that, on the north, south and west sides, there are two coupled, pointed arch- shaped sound arcades that were incorporated into a pressed-segment-arched panel . The east side deviates from this arrangement. Here are two independently executed sound arcades, which, however, were also executed in a recessed panel. The pyramid roof of the church tower is crowned by a tower ball with a weather vane and a star. The weather vane shows the initials FW of Friedrich Wilhelm I. This suggests that he might have helped finance the building of the church.

Furnishing

The furnishings are mainly from the time the church was built; the pulpit from the first half of the 19th century. On the western gallery is an organ , the prospectus of which came from the church in Müllrose to Libbenichen in 1806.

In the south-western area of the cemetery there is a memorial for those who died in the world wars.
