The river flows for the first forty kilometers in a north-westerly direction and forms the border between the Municipio Pojo in the west and the Municipio Entre Ríos in the east. On the western edge of the Serranía de Iniricarsama , the Río Sajta enters the municipality of Puerto Villarroel and now flows largely in a northerly direction. At km 67, the flow of which is Puente sajta , the only bridge across the river crossing, with 980 meters the longest bridge in the department on which the 1657 km long highway Ruta 4 of Tambo Quemado on the Chilean border over Cochabamba and Santa Cruz by Puerto Quijarro on the border with Brazil leads.
The river meanders very strongly in its lower course and has numerous tributaries, the river bed here reaches widths of more than one hundred meters. After a total of 140 kilometers, the Río Sajta flows into the Río Ichilo near the city of Puerto Villarroel .
