The Chausseestraße leads from the north to the historic town center. There the Ketschendorfer Straße branches off to the east. The church stands southeast of this intersection on a slightly raised, unfenced property.

history

There are different details about the year of construction of the church. The Dehio handbook says that the sacred building was built in the first half of the 15th century. In front of the church, however, a plaque has been set up, according to which the building was "probably around 1400" on the foundations of a previous building. The indication “1278” on the weather vane and the first documentary mention of the community from 1285 speaks in favor of a previous building. The information board still speaks of a fortified church - but there is no evidence of this yet. There are also contradicting information about the renovation of the windows on the nave . The plate speaks of an enlargement "around 1750", while the year 1681 is given in the Dehio manual. At a previously unknown time, craftsmen tore down a sacristy on the northeast side of the building. 1995 roofers renovated the gable roof .

Building description

Remnants of the foundations of a sacristy

The structure was essentially made of field stone , which was uncut and not layered. Individual repair work was carried out with reddish brick . The choir is straight and has not moved in. A group of three windows is installed on the east side , which, however, contrary to the information on the information board, probably does not come from the construction period. The repair work and the reworked reveals of the windows speak for this . There is a high, beehive-shaped window on the north and south walls. Below the north window the remains of a gate can be seen through which the sacristy could be entered earlier.

The nave has three comparable windows on its north wall. On the south wall there are only two openings in the nave. In place of the window to the east, there is a small, rectangular extension made from timber . He wears a simple gable roof , which with beaver tail is covered. According to the information board, this access was intended for the believers from Ketschendorf and Petersdorf . Between the western and the middle window, the remains of a pointed arch-shaped community gate that were added with stones can be seen . The ship also has a nave, the eastward hipped is. There is a bat dormer on the south side of the roof .

The transversely rectangular, slightly indented west tower can be entered through a large, double-stepped portal made of red brick. There are no further openings on the lower floor , which might lead to the assumption of a fortified church. On the west side, the remains of a clogged, segment-arched opening can be seen on the middle floor. It is shifted slightly off-center to the south. The same applies to an ogival panel with a recessed opening that is located above on the north and west side. Both works were carried out with brick. The brick tower floor was designed in a western direction with three round panels, each arranged in pairs. There is a sound arcade in the middle . Another sound opening is on the north and south side. Above a brick crenellated wreath is an octagonal helmet that ends with a weather vane and weather vane.

Furnishing

The church furnishings include four carved figures from an altar dating from around 1480/1490. They show Mary with the baby Jesus, a bishop and Saints Dorothea and Laurentius of Rome . The Fuente is late medieval, round shaped and has a cup-shaped cuppa . On the east wall there is a sacrament niche from 1514; In addition, experts were able to secure the remains of a tendril painting in 1996. A wooden chandelier dates from around 1800.

In addition to a gallery with a Sauer organ from 1976, the interior of the building has a flat beamed ceiling. Two bells hang in the tower, which were cast in 1920 and 1952 respectively.
