Töpchin village church

The Protestant village church Töpchin is a sacred building from the years 1893 and 1894 in Töpchin , a district of Mittenwalde in Brandenburg .

history

The story of Töpchin Although up enough in the 12th century, but the church had over many centuries not have a church, but had to Zossen eingepfarrt . This parish was under the district of the Meißner bishop , who in turn took the view that there should be a central church for several villages. The Diocese of Brandenburg did not share this view, but preferred a church in each village. The believers from Töpchin preferred to visit the branch church in Motzen anyway . This led to tensions, as the Töpchiner did not take part in the maintenance of the church in Motzen. In 1860, Töpchin was parish off to Motzen.

Around 1850, Töpchin experienced an economic boom due to the increased mining of lignite . In addition, there were brickworks that supplied Berlin and the surrounding area with bricks . This also increased the population of Töpchin and the desire for an own sacred building. The community bought the school building, had it demolished and thus provided the building site for the church. The foundation stone was laid on May 2, 1893 . After only 15 months of construction, the church consecration could be celebrated on August 29, 1894 in the presence of Ernst von Stubenrauch and the general superintendent Ernst Dryander . The construction costs amounted to 35,000 marks . Over the decades, however, there was lead corrosion on the windows , which resulted in several window panes falling out by 1942. They were replaced and re-glazed. The same fate befell the organ pipes , which were painted with aluminum .

During the Second World War , in August 1944, a train carrying ammunition exploded near the church . The force of the explosion destroyed some windows and the roof of the church. The parish then repaired the roof at the end of 1945 and the windows in spring 1946. Despite the rapid repair work, the organ was damaged by the weather and was repaired in 1947. In the years 1952 to 1955 a comprehensive renovation took place, during which the windows were re-glazed and the building was supplied with electricity. The parish also provided a new crucifix by the sculptor Fabian from Ebersbach / Sa. on. In 1958 she had a winter church built under the organ gallery with electric heating. Another renovation took place in the early 1990s in preparation for the church jubilee in 1994.

architecture

View from the northeast

The church was built in neo -Gothic style from red bricks in the Silesian Association . The north and south sides of the nave , which is rectangular in plan , are dominated by four large, ogival window openings into which a stepped group of three windows is set. Buttresses stabilize the structure between the openings . The windows to the west were subsequently changed. In the lower area there is a wheel window with the Eye of Providence . Above the window a circumferential, gothic creates Fries transition to covered with black brick gable roof . The eastern gable of the nave is decorated with small battlements. The eastern wall of the nave consists of a rectangular, drawn-in choir , which is followed by a rectangular, drawn-in annex to the north and south. The eastern choir wall is provided with a raised group of three windows with a cross made of bricks above. While the choir is also decorated with a frieze, it is missing in the two extensions. The main entrance is through a large gate on the west side of the church. There is a five-fold stepped, pointed arch-shaped portal that can be reached via a small staircase. A total of nine panels in graduated sizes are incorporated in the gable . They enclose a large, neo-Gothic tracery window . The gable ends with a church tower clock and a small open rider made of masonry bricks, in which a bell hangs.

Furnishing

The simple furnishings come from the time the church was built. The wooden crucifix on the altar is a donation from the brickworks owner Selchow and was made by the Saxon sculptor Fabian in 1955. Albert Hollenbach from Neuruppin built the organ on the west gallery . It has two manuals , a pedal and 15 stops . The purchase price at the time was 4,402 marks. In 2019 it is the only instrument with a pneumatic action that has survived from him .

On the village green in front of the church there is a memorial to those who died in the world wars.
