Douglas "Doug" Morrison (born February 1, 1960 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who from 1979 to 1991 for the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL) and for the EC Hedos Munich in the German 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga played on the position of the right winger . His younger brother Mark was also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
At the Lethbridge Broncos in the Western Hockey League , Morrison drew attention to himself in the junior division. Along with Darryl Sutter in his second and Duane Sutter in his third season, he was one of the most successful scorers in Lethbridge. The Boston Bruins selected him in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft in the second round. He stayed with the juniors for another year, but made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) at the end of the 1979/80 season . He also played with the Canadian national team in the 1980 Izvestia Cup this season .
On March 19, he was called up for a game in the squad at the Bruins game at the Minnesota North Stars . The following season he started with the Springfield Indians in the American Hockey League (AHL). At the end of November, the Bruins brought him back to the NHL. On November 27, he scored against the Pittsburgh Penguins . The highlight of the 18 games he played until mid-January was the Bruins' 7-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings on December 14th . After Ray Bourque had put the team on the winning road early on, Morrison scored a natural hat-trick within nine minutes in the last third . The 1982/83 season he played largely with the Erie Blades , only at the end of October brought him the Bruins for three games in the NHL. The next station was the Maine Mariners , where he played with Danny Held and Bernie Johnston , among others , and made it into the final series of the Calder Cup . This was followed by the station at the Hershey Bears , where Chris Valentine was one of his teammates. In the second year in Hershey he was called up again on April 7, 1985 for his last NHL game with the Bruins against the Toronto Maple Leafs .
From the 1985/86 season he played for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles . There he first met Scott MacLeod , with whom he played for the EC Hedos Munich from the 1987/88 season. The two were the outstanding players in the league and quickly became popular with the public. In the second year he was promoted to the Bundesliga, but although Morrison was significantly involved in the promotion with his 23 goals in the promotion round, he was not trusted to be the required performer in the top German division. Together with MacLeod he moved to HC Meran , but after 25 games he moved on to EHC Uzwil in Switzerland. He played one more game for EC Bad Tölz before taking EC Peiting in the major league.
