Heinrich Dreber (called Franz-Dreber * 9. January 1822 in Dresden , † 3. August 1875 in Anticoli Corrado ) was a German painter of romanticism .

Biographical

Carl Heinrich Dreber was the illegitimate son of Carl Gottlieb Dreber and the Dresden citizen daughter Christiane Juliane Seidel. He grew up in the house of his guardian HE Franz. From 1836 to 1841 he attended the Dresden Academy. His teacher was Ludwig Richter , whose idealistic conception and graphic treatment were initially decisive for Dreber. In 1841 he exhibited his first painting.

An inheritance enabled him to travel to Italy in 1843, which Ludwig Richter had also advised him to do. After staying at Lake Garda , Venice and Florence , he settled in Rome . The "Eternal City" and its surroundings, namely the Campagna Romana , the Alban Mountains and the Sabine Mountains , captured him so much that he spent his entire life there with short interruptions.

From 1855 Dreber lived permanently in Rome. During this period, the Italian landscape was the focus of his work. Through his friendship with Friedrich Preller (the elder) Dreber became the teacher of his son, Friedrich Preller (the younger). Between 1862 and 1869 he created several paintings for his villa in Zurich on behalf of Otto Wesendonk , Richard Wagner's patron .

Dreber married Faustina Bruni in 1869, c. Orioli.

Dreber's work is an example of the almost uninterrupted change from the stylistic views of the younger romantic period, as conveyed to him by Ludwig Richter, to ideal nature painting, as it culminated in the work of Arnold Böcklin and in the second half of the 19th century German (and Swiss) painting with certain.

Dreber never painted in front of nature. He composed his landscapes with the help of a rich fund of nature studies. In this way, he created an enclosed space in his pictures, in which nymphs, shepherds and country folk could enjoy themselves carefree.

Admission to the Accademia di San Luca in Rome was the only recognition Heinrich Dreber received during his lifetime.

In the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden is the painting "Bath of Diana".
