The Evangelical Trinity Church is in the Burgau district of the city of Jena in Thuringia . It belongs to the pastoral care district Jena-Süd of the church district Jena in the provost district Gera-Weimar of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The church in Burgau is located south of the city center of Jena, west of the Saale and centrally located in the former village.

history

The church in Burgau was named as a daughter church of Lobeda for the year 1330 in a document . Likewise one refers to the affiliation to the parish of Lobeda.

Today's church was designed in Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century, using medieval remains of the previous building . Friedrich von Cospoth was the builder of this church . Construction began in 1701. After the owner's sudden death, his wife continued construction and in 1703 it was consecrated . Since then, the church has been called the Holy Trinity , as evidenced by inscriptions on the church walls.

To the church

The nave is 9 meters wide and 16 meters long. The rectangle of the choir carries the square church tower above it . A tail dome with a lantern follows . The tower clock comes from JF Weule .

Inside

Inside there are three-sided wooden galleries with strong columns and Corinthian capitals . The gallery parapet is divided by cornices and pillars. The lower mezzanine floor was widened on the west side in 1800 to incorporate the organ . On the north wall is the coat of arms of the Cospoth family. He was buried here in 1701 and then buried under the altar in a crypt .
