The Dreifrankenstein marks the geographical point at which the three Franconian administrative districts of Upper , Middle and Lower Franconia meet.

In the course of the territorial reform of 1972, the border point moved seven kilometers to the southeast as the crow flies. Today both points are marked by stones, which are called the old and new three-franc stone according to the validity of the marked point.

Old Dreifrankenstein

The old Dreifrankenstein, set in 1892, is a 135 cm high column of sandstone . It is located in the forest of the Sandhügel parcel , a few hundred meters west of Kleinbirkach (part of the municipality of Markt Ebrach ) and east of Ebersbrunn (Markt Geiselwind , Lower Franconia) near the headwaters of the Reichen Ebrach . The new Dreifrankenstein, set in 1979, is a 280 cm high boulder made of shell limestone , in which the coats of arms of the three Franconian administrative districts are carved. The area around the Dreifrankenstein was completely redesigned from 2011 to 2013 and provided with large information boards on the three Franconian districts and the neighboring districts.

The stone is located on a hill in the Steigerwald , southwest of Heuchelheim (district of the town of Schlüsselfeld , Upper Franconia), northwest of Freihaslach (Markt Burghaslach , Middle Franconia) and east of Sixtenberg (Markt Geiselwind, Lower Franconia).
