history

The Dreifrankenstein

The place name refers to the history of the village. It was probably the "mountain village of a Six (t)". A family of that name lived here and still existed in the 16th century. The place name is relatively young, the place was probably only founded in the 15th or 16th century. In the 17th century the meaning of the place name changed. Now he was taken to the holy Pope Sixtus I. back.

Sixtenberg was first mentioned in 1592. At that time, Sigmund von Vestenberg sold, among other things, some fiefs in "Sixenberg" to Lorenz von Münster . At that time the village was part of the Zent Burghaslach in the hands of the Lords of Vestenberg. The actual masters, however, were the Counts of Castell, who gave the place as a fief . At that time Sixtenberg consisted of a large estate and a single house.

The eponymous family reappeared in 1608 with Hans Six "zum Sixen Berg". It was entered in the parish register of Kirchrimbach . At times, the Vestenberg gave the village to the Michelsberg Monastery in Bamberg as an after-fief . In 1624 there were three houses in “Siebenberg”, a misspelling. After the Vestenberg died out, the village fell back to Castell in 1687 . In 1807, 22 people lived in Sixtenberg.

Attractions

A special feature is the so-called Dreifrankenstein , which is located in the adjacent district of the city of Schlüsselfeld in Middle Franconia. At this point, the three districts of Upper, Middle and Lower Franconia meet. After the regional reform in the 1970s, the stone was erected at this point in the Steigerwald.
