The Schnackenmühle (also Wiesentheider Straße 21 ) is a wasteland in the district of Geiselwind in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

The Schnackenmühle is located in the northwest of the Geiselwinder municipality on the Geiselwinder Ebrach . North of the old is Dreifrankenstein to find, in the northeast of the area begins Ebrach in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg , the district of Kleinbirkach is the mill closest. Geiselwind itself rises to the south-east. In the south, the federal motorway 3 runs past the mill, and further south is Langenberg . The grinding mill with the leisure land Geiselwind is located in the northwest.

history

The place name of the mill probably refers to the natural occurrences in the area. So the facility was probably on a mosquito-rich stream. The prefix Schnacken- is derived from the Middle High German word snake , which means mosquito or fly. Perhaps Schnackenbach was also an early name for the upper reaches of the Ebrach. On the other hand, the interpretation as the last name of a Schnack miller is rather unlikely.

The mill was first mentioned in 1506. In the interest book of the princes of Schwarzenberg , the fields at the “Schnackens Mül” and the “Schnagkenmul” also appeared. In 1619, Georg Mettes named the stocker in the mill. As a Schwarzenberg subject, he still held the mill in 1639. In 1674 the "Schnockenmühl" was called again. In 1752 the "Schnacken Mühl prope Geißelwind" (lat. Schnackenmühle by Geiselwind) was mentioned.

At the beginning of the 19th century it was operated as a flour mill. First the miller Heinrich Sillig senior operated the plant before his son Heinrich junior took over the Schnackenmühle. There are several fields around the mill, and one hectare of forest belongs to the hallway of the mill. After Heinrich Sillig junior, his son Michael continued to run the mill. Under his leadership, the old mill wheel was dismantled in 1932 and replaced by a turbine .

The mill was still operated under the son of Michael Sillig, Heinrich. Heinrich Sillig was born in 1935 and took over the mill in difficult times. Due to the advancing centralization, the small businesses were often dissolved. The Schnackenmühle mill was given up in 1964. Heinrich Sillig and his wife Elsa, née Stöcker, continued to farm . Today the former mill is owned by Armin Sillig and his wife.
