Location of Röhrensee (bold) in the Geiselwinder municipality

Röhrensee is a district of the Geiselwind market in the Lower Franconian district of Kitzingen .

Geographical location

Röhrensee is located in the west of the Geiselwinder municipality. To the north is the Steigerwaldort Ebersbrunn , while to the west begins the district of Bamberg with the Ebrach districts of Klein- and Großbirkach . Geiselwind extends in the southeast, the south is taken by Langenberg . To the northwest lies Gräfenneuses .

The closest larger cities are Kitzingen with a distance of about 21 kilometers and Volkach with a distance of about 18 kilometers.

history

The name of the place goes back to an old field name. So the name can be interpreted as a pond overgrown with reeds . Both parts of the name come from Middle High German . The ending se- is to be interpreted as a pond or pond, while the prefix roerin can be translated as an adjective with made of reed . The location on a small tributary of the Ebrach is responsible for the name.

The hamlet has been colonized recently. The village goes back to an older settlement that was abandoned after 1529. The Birklingen Monastery in Röhrensee can be traced back to 1529 . It was authorized to collect tithe there.

At the end of the 18th century, the settlement was repopulated so that Röhrensee can only be regarded as a temporary desert . Around 1790 the princes and lords of Schwarzenberg were wealthy in the village and a total of seven residents were their subjects. In the 20th century, the village consisted of just four properties, which were inhabited by the Dotter Weich, Römer, Hilpert andöffner families.

In 1972 Röhrensee became part of the large community of Geiselwind. After the regional reform , the extensive forest areas around the village were controversial for years because the Geiselwind community was the new owner and the lawyers were only granted a right of use. The dispute was not settled until 1981.

legend

Similar to the neighboring Gräfenneuses, there are several legends in Röhrensee about the so-called Fressaklingenpöpel. The Fressaklinge is a mountain forest between Gräfenneuses, Röhrensee, Geiselwind, Füttersee, Kleinbirkach and Ebersbrunn. A bull ran away from a farmer from Röhrensee there. The man and his son searched for him well into the night when the son got into a ditch. Here, in the bright moonlight, he discovered a headless man hacking a wooden handlebar with an ax .

Another legend also has the pawn on the subject. One night there was a knock on the doors of a house in Röhrensee. When asked who was there, it replied from outside: “The tailor from Ebersbrunn is here, tell me where am I?” The residents opened their doors and told the tailor. On the way home from Geiselwind he had met the Pöpel, because he had chosen the quick route through the forest, and then ran wildly to Gräfenneuses.
