Dry Cell (. English dry battery ) was a nu-metal - and hard rock band from California in the United States . They broke up towards the end of 2005 after singer Jeff Gutt and guitarist Danny Hartwell left the band.

history

founding

A first part of the band was formed in 1999 under the name "Beyond Control". Back then, guitarist Danny Hartwell and drummer met on the "Ratt Show" on the Sunset Strip (West Hollywood, California). Singer Judd Gruenbaum later joined the band.

After the band was formed, the three members to date managed to get the attention of Warner Brothers ' A&R director Jeff Blue. This contact was followed by a record deal and the addition of a new member to the band; by singer Jeff Gutt from Detroit, Michigan .

In an interview with an editor of the website "The A&R Online", Jeff Blue Dry Cell (at that time still temporarily called "Impúr") described as follows:

“They're like Metallica meets Incubus meets Linkin Park but heavier. No DJing, no rapping, very melodic and the kids are just phenomenal musicians ”

“They're like Metallica plus Incubus plus Linkin Park - only more intense. Without DJing, without rapping, very melodic; the boys are just phenomenal musicians "

- Jeff Blue, A&R Director, Warner Brothers :

Blue also describes how he discovered the band:

“A friend of mine told me about the drummer who was 11 at the time and said how amazing he was. I ended up hearing a demo that wasn't very good but because I was right down the street from where they were playing I went up and saw them and was actually very impressed. I made a development deal and have now been working with them for over a year and a half. I'm with them six hours, six days a week. I have them in a rehearsal room right next to Warner Brothers ”

“A friend of mine mentioned the drummer, who was 11 at the time, and told me how amazing he was. I ended up listening to the demo tape, which wasn't very good. But since they were playing just down the street from me, I went to see them and was really impressed. I signed a development contract with them and we've been working together for over a year and a half. We spend six hours a day and six days a week together. I'm very close to them because their rehearsal room is right next to the Warner Brothers. "

The album "Disconnected"

After signing the deal with Warner Music Group , the band began working on their debut album, "Disconnected". The album, containing 12 tracks, was originally scheduled to be released on July 16, 2002 ; however, this date has been postponed to August 27, 2002 .

Later there was an argument between the father of one of the band members and Jeff Blue, because the father did not agree with the promotional budget of the band. Two days after this dispute, he officially complained to the Warner Music Group and two days later Dry Cell's record deal was terminated.

The only place where the “Disconnected” album was ever sold was the “Locobazooka Festival” in 2002. At that time, the final, pressed copies of the album including the cover illustration were offered. These originals are very rare these days. However, duplicates of the originals - with a different cover illustration - are more common.

Meanwhile, the band announced the release of "Disconnected" for September 2008 on Myspace.

According to Warner Brothers

After the contract with the Warner Music Group was terminated, Dry Cell did not terminate immediately.

Rumor has it that the band and Epic Records even signed a new record deal in March 2003 . For reasons unknown, however, no further publications resulted from this contract.

At the beginning of 2004 it was announced that Dave Wasizrski would replace Jeff Gutt as the singer of the band. Gutt left the band to work on his own project called "Acrylic". As far as is known, 8 songs then emerged with Wasizrski on the microphone.

In 2005 Jeff Gutt finally returned to Dry Cell and four demo songs were created. Two of the songs were released to the public under the names "New Revolution" and "The Lie". At the end of 2005 Gutt left the band again, as did Danny Hartwell. This event triggered the dissolution of Dry Cell. Subsequently, however, two old, previously unreleased songs by the band appeared on their MySpace user page .

Singer Jeff Gutt founded two new projects after the separation; "Band With No Name" and "Punch". Drummer Brandon Brown joined a group called "Katsumoto".

At the end of 2007 the formation found its way back together thanks to an impetus from Jeff Blue.
