The Duel Stone in Hanover , also written Duellstein , was erected as a memorial stone for a duel that was fatal during the time of the Kingdom of Hanover . The small, cylindrical sandstone west of Kleestrasse in the Kleefeld district in the Eilenriede can be found at the foot of the local toboggan hill .

history

The duel stone is reminiscent of Georg Chüden , a naval officer with the rank of royal lieutenant at sea. The son of the court counselor Chüden, who was active in Hanover, was killed on February 1, 1859 in a gun duel against the lieutenant in the Queen Hussar Regiment in Lüneburg , Georg von Bock.

The cause of the duel was an argument between the two duelists about a girl on a dance floor in Hildesheim .

The duel stone was first "five steps away from the intersection of the Bult leading to the Eilenriede horse trail to the cycle path to the Zoologischer Garten been" installed. After it had been stored elsewhere in the meantime, it was not set up again until 1980 at its current location between the toboggan hill and the children's playground in the Eilenriede. He bears the inscription

"GC
February 1,
1859"

Since the Duellstein seemed to have temporarily disappeared, in December 2015 at a meeting of the Hanover City Council in the Committee for Environmental Protection and Green Areas, an inquiry was made about its whereabouts, which Karin van Schwartzenberg, head of the Green Spaces Office, then replied to the effect that the Duellstein would still be in its place remained, but would mostly be covered by bushes in the summer months.
